Vedic astrology: associated branches and more about it


Vedic astrology is one such branch of Indian astrological science that deals with motions of planets, their positions and movements with respect to time. It is said that it affects the life of people on earth. Earlier, they only mention the movements of celestial bodies but as the time passed on the renowned astrologers started including Zodiac sign too. As per the Vedic astrology, they consider 27 constellations which include twelve Zodiac signs, nine planets, and twelve houses which define the basic aspects of life. 

The visual representation of planets and signs is also known as horoscope chart. The real meaning of Vedic astrology is to understanding the meaning of planet’s arrangements and then to apply it to human’s life and in other entities. Generally it is associated with mainly three branches:

1.      Siddhanta (astronomy): It includes applications, methods etc.

2.      Samhita (Mundane astrology): It includes the prediction of important events like earth quake, war, financial position, construction as per the vastu shaastra, electional astrology, astro-meteorology, animals etc.

3.      Hora (Predictive astrology): It is associated with various sub branches which are mentioned below. 

To know more about the “Hora”, its sub branches and its uses are mentioned below:

a.       Hora Shaatra or Jaatak Shaastra: In this style, prediction is done on the basis of individual horoscope.

b.      Muhurt (Electional astrology): Selection of exact time through which activities of life can be predicted.

c.       Swar Shaastra: Prediction is done on the basis of name and its sound.

d.      Prashna: time is considered an important aspect and prediction is done by asking questions.

e.       Ankjyotisha (Numerology): prediction is done on the basis of numbers.

f.       Nadi astrology: prediction is done individually.

g.      Tajik Shaastra (Annual horoscope): Astrology which is generally based on the positioning of annual solar.

h.      Jaimini Sutras: prediction is based on the methodology of famous astrologer whose name was Acharya Jaimini.
i.        Nastjaatakam: Art of construction or tracing of lost horoscope.

j.        Streejaatak or female astrology: basically this branch deals with the female nativities.

Generally, all the above mentioned branches and types are included for predicting the future of human’s life and other entities on earth.
